Just out Surfing tonight looking for leads on locating some of our Vets whom haven't been found yet and thought I'd stop into the Website here as I do almost every nite to see if anything new is happening. While reading Ricks posting on the Reunion I noticed that he said there was a freebe involved on the registration form. I already sent mine in and forgot to follow instructions. Oh well, I was more excited about just getting registered for the Reunion then the freebe's involved. For all you guy's who haven't yet attended one of our Reunions your really missing out. This will be my 3rd one coming up and the only thing that will keep me from going every year is if I Croak. Looking forward to seeing everyone and hope to see alote of 1st time Vets in Colorado. Believe me, its a walk down memory lane thats equaled by nothing. --Mike Burke-- Search Commettee Chief

" WE WERE SOLDIERS " FIELD SCREENING of the MOVIE

I have a list of the 50+ American cities in which the screening of the new Mel Gibson's movie based on the Battle at LZ XRAY in November, 1965 will be shown. C Btry and Hdq Btry fired in support of the Cav in the Ia Drang Valley in this campaign.

The list contains the contact person for obtaining tickets. The production company hope to accomodate as many Ia Drang and Vietnam Veterans as possible at the screenings. The movie will open to the public on March 1, 2002.

I know it has shown in Dallas on Feb.4th and will be in Chicago on Feb. 11 and 20th. The list is large so please contact me for a city near you and I will email details..I am trying to contact several vets in the Chicago area to meet at the screening but the time is short.

Jim Brigham Vice-Pres of the 7th Cav Assn provided the list and information.

Served with 1st Bn 17th FA HHB, November 1967 to August 1969..1/17th during this time period was an 8 inch Bn. serving in general support of I corps, Which is probably consistant with what is now called area 1 in Korea. At that time HHB/SVC was located approx 25-30 miles north of seoul on a dirt road, the name of the camp was Camp McIntyre. Had Guys attached to us from 122nd Sig I believe. Would like to hear from anyone serving during this time with the 1/17th. If anyone from the 1/17th in OK should happen to come across this I would like to have a copy made of some pages of a yearbook that I donated to them when I was at Ft. Sill back in the 80's. I can be contacted at jschultheis01@msn.com. IN TIME OF PEACE PREPARE FOR WAR... GO PERSUADERS...

It is a pleasure to see the care and creativity that have gone into this website. The people that are connecting with one another here--while there is still time to connect--share an experience that the uninvolved can never know.

Hello everyone, Myself and CSM Delmar D. Beard along with our wives went to the screening of (We were Soldiers) last night. It is a must see movie. You will not be sorry, Hollywood has finally got the Vietnam story right. In the movie you will see a bunch of hero's. My hat is off to LTG Hal Moore (RETIRED) and Joe Galloway (currently an assistant to Colon Powell) for writing the book and making sure that we were not depicted as a bunch of baby killers etc. I hope that this movie will now erase all of the bad taste that people had for us. DO NOT MISS THE MOVIE!!!!

I served with 3/17th at Merrill in Nurenburg, Ger. as a Bn Communications Officer 1963-1964. For info, the BN was originally the 39th FA BN a 280mm Gun Bn. there were 2 Firing Btrys at Merrill, and one at Schwabach. The 39th was de-activated and became the 3/17th with new 8in SP Howitzers. Most of the men stayed and re-trained on the 8in. I believe there is a 280mm Gun at the Museum at Ft. Sill, that was in Merrill, as I remember we had to transport it via Autobaun with escort using its own transporter units. I was transferred to Ansbach with the 33d Bn an Honest John Missile Bn. Also at Merrill was 2/34th FA BN 155mm SP gun. All BNs were part of the 210th Arty Group HQs in Ansbach. You have a Superior web site.
