A poem worth reading...

FORGOTTEN FIGHTER

"In World War II" he whispered, "I was wounded by a blast." As he began his story, Reminiscing of his past.

"I was just a boy back then, I lied about my age. To get into the army And fight for the USA

I love this country very much, It's still the very best. And I would fight, to keep it free, And, safe from foreign pest.

We won that war, and I came home, My wounds had healed enough, To re-enlist, with other men. The army made us tough.

Then a little flare up, In Korea called us out. A threat against our freedom, Spreading fear without a doubt.

There I caught a bullet, When I tried to save a friend. Another wound, for Uncle Sam, They sent me home to mend."

"Soldier, have you had enough?" My sergeant said to me. "Or, do you want another tour, If ever there's to be.

We would train and fight again, If ever it need be, Because we loved America, We'll fight to keep it free."

"It didn't take too long. Before my boys were off again. We were shipped off to a war, We thought would never end.

I didn't understand it much, If it was wrong or right. But I was a US soldier, And my country said "Go Fight"

I never questioned orders, That were sent from up above. I did it for America, The country, that I love.

I fought to keep my country safe, Again, in Vietnam. Then, wounded I came home again, A victim of napalm.

My fighting days were over now, And, I had given all. But, some had given more than me, Their names are on a wall.

I am now, well up in years, A soldier old and worn. I could only sit and pray, As, I watched Desert Storm.

So proud of our boys over there, Who stand for what is right. Freedom is the battle cry, The reason why they fight.

Young soldiers fight for liberty, Protecting freedom's bliss. Old soldiers dream of bygone days, While fighting loneliness.

We were heroes in our day," He said, and then he sighed. "Forgotten in some V. A. home, And all my friends, have died.

I never ask for anything, Just wanted to live free. But, if you write this story, There are many just like me.

Who fought to keep our country , Safe and free from every foe. Only to come home again, And have no place to go.

Sadly, when the limelight fails, Heroes fade away. Some men fight the silent battles, Till their dying day.

Please remember what it took, And what we have to pay And join with us remembering On this Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is Special, It is not just summer's start. The reason that we have this day, Should be etched on your heart.

Lives were lost, and young men died, To keep this country free. So take a moment on that day, To meditate with me.

Remember all those valiant men, And women who fought for, The lifestyle that you now enjoy, Because they went to war.

Everyone speaks of what an influence the Internet can have. Here is a challenge for its strength...... I would like to see a moment dedicated this May 28th. From 12:00 to 12:05 PM EST. True dedication - True silence.... No phone, shut off your cell phone and pager.... Turn off the TV or radio. If you're chatting online at that time, let your cyber buddies know you are dedicating that moment, and won't they please join you? Gather with your family and friends nearby and perhaps say a prayer. But most importantly remember those men and women who have served YOUR country. Many have died for YOU and even more have had their lives forever changed. Pass this poem and note to everyone you know. We have a month to make this happen.

I was the company clerk for C Battery 2/17th Fa in Ban Me Thout, Vietnam during the time period of April 1970 thru March 1971. I have been to two of the reunions so far and have enjoyed them thoroughly. I am looking forward to Fort Sill in June. It was really amazing to see former members of my unit after 30 years. We had all changed in our appearance, maybe some in personalities, but after a few minutes of reuniting with each other it was as if we had never been separated. Just an awesome thing! Also to meet people who had been there before us was so "cool". Some of the nicest people you could ever meet and there was an instant bond with them also. Only those of us who have been there could understand the bonds of a wartime relationship. I only wish that this could have happened sooner. However, God has a plan for all of us and this was just a part of his plan. Now we are coming together again. I will see you at Fort Sill.

There are still many of us out there and if you have a buddy tell him and tell him to tell his buddies. The internet has been wonderful in finding lost friends. Sometimes we need to be reminded of a name to look for and it really helps to pass this along to your friends that you were with over there and they can in turn pass on to others that we may not be able to locate.

Maybe I'll buy a dozen!! I was with Chalie Battery 2/17th Artillery from Feb 68 thru Oct 69 . I won't be able to attend reunion this year but I'll be thinking of you guy's. Enjoyed last years reunion in D.C. and going to "The Wall" was emotional. Untill last year I've kept Vietnam in the back of my mind but now it seems I think of the 17th Artillery everyday (which is good) I'll be thinking of guy's over the Memorial Day Weekend. Display a Flag this weekend for the guy's of the 17th Artillery who didn't make it back.

Hello Troopers,

While searching the web, I came upon a site that led me to this one. I was really excited. I contacted Richard Jones and we had phone conversation today. I served in Vietnam Jan 68 - Jan 69. I was with A battery, 2nd, 17th artillery. It was, and always will be brave soldiers. This morning 05/29/01, is the first I had talked to anyone from the unit in Vietnam. I am very grateful to those responsible for getting this site together. I have been battling cancer for the past four years, and have had several operations and treatments. I plan on attending the reunion this year. My wife and my fifteen year old son will accompany me. My wife an children are so wonderful, as they have had to deal with so much medical problems of mine. I would like to hear from any of you guys.

Always know that Almighty God loves us all.

While surfing the web over memorial day weekend, I came upon a page that contained the address of Richard Jones. I contacted him yesterday, and today we had a good conversation by phone.

THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED IN THE BUILDING OF THIS SITE.

I served in Vietnam from Jan 68 thru Jan 69. I was assigned to A battery, 2nd, 17th Artillery in An Khe. If you didn't get mail, supplies, or maybe even promoted on time, it could have been my fault. Just kidding....

Today was the first time I had talked to anyone since I came back from Vietnam in 1969, that was actually there while I was. I live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with my wonderful wife, and four children. Our youngest is fifteen. My family has been so great, especially as I have had so many illnesses. I have been in a battle with cancer now for four years.

I would like to hear from you guys, so get on the computer or phone. My wife and I, and my fiteen year old son plan on attending the reunion this year. Hope to see YOU there.

My prayers are with all, those who did not return, and those that did.I pray for your families as well.

Always know that Almighty God loves us all. He is so good.

God bless all of you.....

I was with the 2/17 in Vietnam, from March 69 to Feb. 70. I was with B/BTRY on LZ Schueler for about 10 months. We were then moved to a FSB outside of Da Lat. I was also at Ft. Benning, Ga. before going to Vietnam.
