Norm, I thank you for jogging my old brain. I WILL BE THERE. I have gone through all of the posts from December 2000 to date and only found three of us that were there in 70 and 71 there has to be more than that out there. You know I spent three tours in Nam and I can not remember a single name of anyone I was with during my tours that is the reason I joined the group I felt it would be good therapy for me to remember. Nothing yet, so I am going to attend again this year maybe it will jog me into remembering things that happened that I have blocked out I don’t know, but it is sure worth a try. I had the most wonderful time at the last reunion, I met the two wonderful people that were there during my tour even though I had never met them, Webbie, Bootzy (Mike). I was introduced to a lot of other people during that time we spent together and they to could not have made me feel most welcome even though I was not a cannon cocker I was there with the unit. I ran the commo for the Hq and never got to meet any of the gunners. I truly feel that its not only about the 17th its about brotherhood and you could feel it during that three days we spent together. I thank you all for that touch of true friendship to include the ones that I do remember from the last reunion Rich Siebe, Jack Picciolo and yourself. God bless you all, and God Bless America.

Be Well

I cut my teeth at a FA office in C/2/17 at Fort Sill 1963-1964. We shot lots of rounds for the school every week and it was certainly good training. I was fortunate to be C Btry XO on a BN ATT and get to do the hip shoot. In 1970-71 I was BC of C/5/4 FA (155mm SP) at C-2 in RVN as past of 1st Bde 5th Mech Inf Div. We went to the Laotion border as part of Dewey Canyon II and one evening did a hip shoot on QL9. Old trainin paid off! Was BN CDR 1982-84 of 1st Bn 94th FA, 1st AD in Nurenburg, Germany. Retired at Fort Leavenworth 1990 as Colonel. Best to all. Welcome home Persuaders!

Check out www.army.mil/cmh-pg/reference/Korea/KW-remem.htm

This site has photos of A Btry 17th FA Battalion. One photo is featured in the home page. ( A series of photos flashes and repeats). The 17th 8"are shown in Photos 1950,51,52. Chapter Five of the "Combat Actions in Korea" details the 17th FA at Kunu-ri. Very interesting reading about our unit's history. This site was recommended to me by Fletcher Aleong in April. Sorry I did not post it earlier. On the same subject. I am currently reading S.L.A. Marshall's "The River and the Gauntlet". It is an account of the same battle in Chapter 5 above. It also mentions the 17th and its part in the retreat of the US 8th Army in November, 1950. It is also an excellent account of a war in a very different environment than the jungles of Vietnam. Thursday May 30, 2002 is the actual Memorial Day. Today is the day of observance for this holiday. Most of us have been to a Memorial Day Ceremony. This is a day that we veterans and the entire United States should pay honor to those who have fallen fighting for our freedom. Show your respect, attend a ceremony, fly your flag, say a prayer for all that have lost a loved one. God Bless all that have lost a loved one and God Bless America.
