Served in Batry A, at Ft Sill and Korea 1950-1951. Initially as a new 2d Lt and later as the Battery Commander. Rejoined the 17th in Korea in 1965 as the Battalion Commander. Would you believe some of the same towed pieces were still in A Btry? We than changed to SPs. I feel well qualified as a 17th Alumni. I have great "war stories", especially of the early days of the Korean War. I have been seqrching for my first Btry Cmdr, Allen L Myers, but have been unable to locate him. Would like to hear from any past members of the organization during the period I was there. Surely everyone has heard the story of Kuni ri (sp?)

As Chaplain of 17th Artillery Regiment Association, I feel that it is my duty to ask that all of our Members and Perspective Members, spend time in Prayer for the lives that have been lost in this Horriffic Tragedy! I know that it is very hard to understand why this type of thing has happened in our country, however, we will all understand it some day. Sometimes God allows things to happen in our lives to give us a wake up call! if you will! Please read in your Bibles Psalms 44:4-10. I think that you will get a great meaning out of this. I have been very strong in my belief for many years now. I know that when God calls me home that I will be ready to go! I just hope and pray that you will all find that peace of mind that I have found. If you have not found Chirst as your Lord and Saviour and would like help in doing so, do not hesitate to contact me. God has commissioned us all to spread his word. It is my goal to touch as many lives as I can. I want to see all my friends and relatives in Heaven when that time comes. On September 11, 2001, The United States of America was changed forever! It will never be the same as we once knew Her to be. Those of us who have served in Vietnam or other Wars have come to know what it is like to live in a War Zone. Most of our people here in the United States have never experienced anything like what we have. Our purpose there was to help keep the United States from having to ever suffer like this. However, our Country has become way to lax on security! I believe that that will all change now but what sorrow it is to happen this way. Remeber the Wake Up Call. I pray that our Government will act quickly and accurately to deal with this matter. The price of Freedom on Earth is not entirely free. We can be Free if we believe in Jesus Christ as our Saviour. For it is only through Him that we will be able to be with God through out eternity. The Bible says in the book of John, "You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you Free". If I can be of any assistance to anyone, by way of just talking to someone or helping in some other way, I will be most glad to do that. Please remember to pray for this Great Country and the Lives that have been lost. I Love You All, Webster Cole, Chaplain

September 13, 2001: As Chaplain of the 17th Artillery Regiment Association, I feel that it is my duty to ask that all of our Members and Perspective Members, spend time in Prayer for the lives that have been lost on September 11, 2001, after the Horriffic Tragedy of attacks on our Country. I am in Prayer for all the Lives that have been lost up to this point and in the days to come. I know that it is hard to understand why this has happened in our country, however, we will all understand it some day. Sometimes God allows things to happen in our lives that we do not understand. I look at it as a wake up call to the United States and to the non Christians of the Unites States and the World. Please read in your Bibles Psalms 44:4-10. You will get a blessing from it as I did. I have been very strong in my belief for many years now. I know that when God calls me home that I will be ready to go. I just hope and pray that my many friends and relatives have that satisfaction and security. If you have not found Jesus Christ as your Saviour I will be glad to help you. Just give me a call! God has commissioned us all to spread the Word of God. It is my mission to reach as many people as possible. In the book of John he says that "We will all know the Truth, and the Truth will set us Free". On September 11, 2001, The United States of America was changed forever. The USA will never be the same as we have known Her in the past. All of our lives have been changed in many ways that we do not yet comprehend or understand. Many of us spent time in a Country where there was constant fear of today and tomorrow. Something that The USA has not had to deal with. I remember very well the year that I spent in Vietnam. A war torn land full of death and hate! Probably still like that to some extent. Most of us never thought that we would see anything in the USA like this. I see more people expressing and asking for prayers that ever before in this country. I believe that the time has come for every person to look to our Lord and Saviour and ask him for forgiveness and to accecpt him as our Saviour. That is the only way to God Himself. That is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me". Once again, I pray that all of you will pray for our Country, and seek Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour if you have not already. I Love You All, Webster Cole, Chaplain

Webster, Thanks for your words of support. I'm sure it is much needed at this point and time in America and especially by all veterans of the 17th Artillery. Keep your heads high as we have nothing to be ashamed of, this is a setback but we Americans of the United States will prevail. Lets unite and get behind our president, lets rally to the cause and fly our US Flag everyday until terroism is defeated. Please pray for all of those that have been caught up in this awful Massacre and their loved ones. God Bless all of those brave Americans that are participating in the rescue, they are heroes. God bless America.

This is an email sent by a Fellow Persuader to one of his friends in the UK:

We all appreciate your thoughts and prayers. For decades, there has been a very high percentage of the populace of this country who have felt these two Oceans that surround us form a shield from wars and other acts such as those that were perpetrated on civilians last Tuesday. Even in the aftermath, we have some people in the Senate, House, and general population who feel we must make sure that we only punish those responsible for these events. It is this attitude that the all terrorist organizations around the world are counting on. Those in politics who share these sentiments I believe will get their comeuppance in the next few elections. The landscape of this country as I have known it for 60 years has been changed forever. Our way of life will be changed forever, and it will never be the same as it was prior to 9/11/2001. The democracies of this world must band together and wage war to eradicate all terrorist organizations in this world and not limit our efforts to those responsible for these recent attacks. In addition, the countries that support them must be harmed physically and then insulated, cut off from the rest of the world, starved, excommunicated if you will, until they are willing to let the people of all countries live the way they wish to live. There is no other way. Nothing less will do. If we do not, then what is to prevent the hijacking of a Libyan passenger jet and then have it flown into Windsor Castle, Big Ben, or Parliament itself. My only fear is there are countries out there who share the same isolationist views of those people in our country that I referred to previously.

The Cold War has been over for some time, and now a new war has begun. We as a result of the cessation of the cold war have not maintained our Armed Forces with appropriate numbers of qualified people and equipment. We have traded our National Security for social programs. We need a better balance. That will happen just as sure as an antimissile shield will now be developed and installed in this country.

Now that we have come to our senses and joined the rest of the world, I hope the rest of the free world will join us in this crusade. I would hate to see us go it alone. I have great confidence in our leadership. These people will demonstrate to the world a sense of purpose in a responsible manner as they achieve their objective. This could not have happened in the previous administration. I just pray to God we do not have to go it alone. We need your country's help as well as that of others.

I have rambled on a bit. Probably out of outrage and anger for a myriad of reasons beyond the attacks of the other day. There have been other events of years gone by that set the stage for these attacks. We are licking our wounds but will soon be ready. All terrorists will soon learn they messed with the wrong people. A "sleeping giant" has been awakened; a more responsible citizen of the rest of the world. We better understand what rest of the Free World has been facing for some time. We apologize for not being better neighbors. Now let's go do what needs to be done.

I just got this in my email, I have no idea how far it has been or will go. I dont even know what time zone it is set up for but I will do my best, to do this, at 7:00PM EST Friday 14 September 2001 =================================================

I hope you and your families and friends are all safe. This isn't much but it's something.

Friday Night at 7:00 p.m. step out your door, stop your car, or step out of your establishment and light a candle. We will show the world that Americans are strong and united together against terrorism. Please pass this to everyone on your e-mail list. We need to reach everyone across the United States quickly.

The message: WE STAND UNITED - WE WILL NOT TOLERATE TERRORISM.

We need press to cover this-- we need the world to see.

I've sat here for the past couple of days with emotions which have taken me from a total, this can't be really happening, complete saddness, and finally to anger. One phrase which keeps popping up in my mind is the Motto of the 17th Artillery. "In time of Peace prepare for War". I have complete faith in our Military and our Govt and its made me proud again to see this Country and our friends around the World come together and finally say, Lets Kick some Ass. This is a very sad time in our Free World, but this Enemy will be defeated. I know this to be a fact because as another former enemy once stated, We have woken a Sleeping Giant. God Bless our fallen friends and loved ones who lost there lives for no other reason other then being just what they we're, just Free Americans. To me, this worth fighting fighting for, no matter what it takes, no matter how long it takes, there is no place in this entire World for Terriorist. They must be eliminated.

I heard an unbelievable statistic the other day on the TV - more people died on Tuesday than in one year in Vietnam. ????

I told my wife and daughters not to be afraid and have faith in our leaders and our fighting forces that are ready and waiting and will without question succeed in their mission.

After a discussion between Norm Jones and myself, the 17th Field Artillery Association has donated $500 to the Red Cross National Relief Fund. It's not much but in times like these, every little bit helps. Hopefully this insanity will be over soon.

Thanks to a letter from Nolan L. Putnam on the membership committee yesterday, otherwise I would not have known the association existed.

I was an FDO and, briefly, XO of B/2/17 in DaLat, and CO of A/2/17 in NhaTrang in 1970 and early 71. Also spent a wee bit of time in HHB in S3 in Ban Me Thuot before leaving Vietnam.

I will forever be, and am proud to have served as, a 'redleg'. I had an ocassion to vist a Veterans Service Center a couple of years back and was shown the printout of all who died in Vietnam. I have not seen the wall, but the impact of that moment was as emotional to me as the events of last week.

Thanks, Nolan ... and the rest of you guys who have done such a fine job with the association. I am off to join up and hope to see you guys at the next reunion.

I am searching for Sgt Gomez who was on a 50 cal. machine gun with me on top of our track when we ran the road block at Kunu-ri. Sgt Gomez is a hero. If anyone knows Sgt Gomez please contact me. I would like to talk to any of his family. He was a little older than me. I am 72. William Brown Box 136 Dickens, TX 79229-0136
